Baseball Statistics: A Study

Baseball stats do not have to be complex and have many everyday uses. Many people use them daily, including sports bettors, coaches, executives, and athletes. This research paper answers questions such as: “What are the most common baseball stats?” and “What are baseball statistics used for?” This paper includes the most common stats and some more modern and advanced stats. It also consists of their everyday purposes. The rationale of this paper is to increase one’s knowledge about baseball statistics and their uses. Research includes personal interviews with former professional players, internet articles on baseball statistics, and books on baseball statistics. Many people use baseball stats daily, including sports bettors, coaches, athletes, and executives. Sports bettors use baseball stats to influence their decisions; coaches and athletes use stats to help their teams win more games. Using a three-part model, executives can use stats to fuel their teams’ business. For this model to succeed, one must have a winning team, big-name players, and big-stat players- guys who home runs or throw hard (100 MPH+).
